Photograph a wine list, get a confident pick, and build your own tasting record.
Point your camera at a restaurant wine list (or a photo you already have) and Sommelier Diary reads it, scores the wines, and recommends one bottle it can vouch for — with a plain-language reason, not just a rating. Alongside the pick, it shows a price-distribution readout: how the list's price compares to what similar wines typically sell for, so you can see where a wine sits before you order. A private tasting journal, marked bottles and a palate report are included.
Both plans include the same 3-scan monthly allowance (a new subscription starts with a 1-week free trial that includes 3 scans). Need more in a busy month? Subscribers can add a 5-scan pack for $2.99 any time, from Settings or right where the meter runs out — and with the anonymous-statistics switch on, each choice you record earns half a scan back (up to three per month). Scans are the only metered thing in the app — nothing you have already received is ever locked behind the meter, and your last reading stays open forever. Payment is processed by Apple through your App Store account.
You can cancel at any time; your subscription stays active through the end of the period you already paid for. Sommelier Diary does not process payments or cancellations directly — this is entirely managed through your Apple ID.
What counts as a scan?
A scan counts against your monthly limit only when the app successfully reads a wine list and returns a result. Your count is shown in the app so you always know where you stand.
What if a scan fails?
If a scan can't be completed — for example, the photo couldn't be read, or the connection dropped — it is not counted against your monthly limit. You're only charged a scan for a list the app actually managed to read.
When does my limit reset?
Your scan allowance resets monthly on the date shown in the app, for both monthly and annual plans.
Scanning isn't working / says it needs a connection
Reading a wine list requires an active internet connection, since the photo is analyzed by our AI service to identify and score the wines. If you're offline or on a weak connection, the app will tell you honestly rather than guessing — try again once you have a signal or Wi-Fi.
Can I use the app without an internet connection?
Reading a new list requires a connection. Everything the app has already shown you stays viewable, and your tasting journal is stored on your device and syncs through your own private iCloud — saved records are readable fully offline.
My saved wines aren't showing up on my other device
Your records sync privately through your own iCloud account — nothing is stored on our servers.
A wine list didn't scan correctly
Try retaking the photo with the list flat, well-lit, and fully in frame. Very handwritten or low-light lists can be harder to read — the app will tell you if a line couldn't be parsed rather than guessing at it.
